The word tattoo was brought to Europe in 1774 by Cook, as he returned
with a tattooed native called Omai from one of his trips to the
south sea islands. The word tattoo has two major derivations the
word itself resembles the sound the tattooing instrument made on
the skin of those being tattooed and derives from the Polynesian
word "ta" which means striking something and the Tahitian
word "tatu" which means "to make a mark".
tattoo designs - It has been proven that tattooing has existed
since at least 12,000 years BC. The purpose of tattooing varies
from culture to culture. Today people get tattoos for all kinds
of reasons If you ask someone about their tattoo many will say they
got it after going through a life change of some sort, like a reminder
of that event. It is believed that the first tattoos where made
by accident, like stepping in a sharp charcoaled branch, leaving
some trapped pigment permanently in the dermis.
Different types of styles
Whether you choose your tattoo designs from flash or have it custom
drawn you wont permanently put it on your body unless it has a very
personal meaning for you. You could say that each tattoo is a one
of a kind, that's true but most tattoos can fit into certain genres
depending on the technique and style it was made with. These styles
or genres have evolved over time and we are now able to place most
if not all tattoos in one or several of them. Below is an overview
of several tattoo designs and styles.
"The only difference between a tattooed person
and a person who is not
tattooed is that a tattooed person does not care if you are tattooed
or not."
